Many health and wellness professionals use sliding fee scales, formulas, and other methods to reduce fees for clients with limited resources. One model of fee-setting is simply called Pay What You Can (PWYC). In this structure, there may be a standard or common fee, but there is no set formula or scale for fee reductions. Instead, fees for each client are set on an individual basis.
Hi Kayte, I recently found this article (and your whole substack) because I am a therapist in private practice and am looking up information about pay what you can models and ways to subsidize income if necessary. I have already been working within a reduced fee on individual needs basis, but I want to be able to do this more for multiple reasons. I would love to connect and chat sometime to learn more about your experience working with this model. Upon reading some of your posts here, I find myself smiling and nodding due to many shared beliefs. Thank you for putting words to many of my beliefs 💖
